Protect Your Money!

There are many borrowers who feel lured into a loan they didn’t understand but signed the papers anyways. Since they didn’t know how to protect themselves, they may face a financial crisis. It is your responsibility to protect your money and here are a few pointers to keep your money safe:

1) Don’t allow yourself to be pressured. It’s a salesman’s job to persuade you into jumping on board and urging you to make an immediate decision. Learn to say ‘no’ if you feel pressured. You will likely have enough time to think about the matter and call them back with a confident answer.

2) Read Everything! Getting a loan will require a LOT of paperwork. It may seem overwhelming but the diligence you take now into reading all of the paperwork you sign will save you a lot of heartache later. Become familiar with all of the small print and ask questions if you don’t understand the terms. NEVER sign anything you haven’t read thoroughly. If you feel pressured, ask the broker that you would like to sign the documents at home and will give them the papers the next day.

3) Ignore anything that is too good to be true. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be wary of being scammed or taken advantage of. Always double-check figures the loan officer gives you. There are plenty of mortgage calculators online to try out.

Always take careful steps when investing your money, especially in your home. A home is usually the biggest investment most of us make. It is your responsibility to keep it safe.
