Colors choosen for the bathroom can make a room appear larger, warmer or relaxing.  i.e. Earth tones will typically give a small bathroom an appearance of being taller.

There is another technique called the porcelain crackle technique which recreates the look of aged porcelain.  There is another technique that some are interested in, called dragging (a form of faux finish) which uses subtle color variations to create a number of decorating moods.

Sponge painting is another fun option and favored by quite a number of interior design professionals.  It can turn the room into a dramatic background for other accessories, like fabrics and curtains.

There is also the rag rolling technique in which you choose glaze colors and apply with a twisted rag over a base coat.  Or marbeling is another good one that interior design professionals use to bring elegance to a room.

But lets not forget other elements that contribute to the overall feel of a room, such as lighting.  Large bathrooms can make due with low wattage or a dimmer switch, whereas a small bathroom should consider using sconces that emit a warm and soothing glow that can be bright enough for tasks like makeup application.  Choosing a large missor will reflect the light around the room and give it even more depth.

Make sure to add some personal touches like accents, objects, and motifs that will reflect your personality such as: photos, vases or handcrafted accessories which will make guests feels welcome.  It also wouldn’t hurt to add some nice Egyptian cotton towels!
