Finding a Short Sale

Short sales are typically not advertised as ‘short sales’ but are usually left to be noted in the ‘agent only remarks’. So how do you find them?

1) Try searching through your local paper and read the legal section. Some states will list foreclosure notices in the local paper. If a property has received a foreclosure notice and it’s active in the MLS, there is a pretty good change that it is being sold as a short sale.

2) You could trying to getting an agent, if you are the market and have them check “Agent Only Remarks”. Most agents will list under these remarks that the home was a short sale and can only be viewed by agents.

3) Or you can pay money looking at foreclosure sites. Some sites will even give you foreclosure data for free, but will charge you for the full amount of information. You will be able to see foreclosures in your area, but of course, will not show an address till you pay the membership fee. You may get lucky with some sites that offer a free subscription to search their data and will have you pay after that.
